Unlike many firms, NSF does not restrict trading activity around scheduled economic news. That said, it’s important to understand how news trading is handled under our rules.
Evaluations
News trading is fully allowed in all evaluation challenges.
There are no restrictions and no profit deductions for trades executed during news events.
You may open or hold trades overnight, over weekends, and through major announcements without limitation.
Funded Accounts
For funded accounts, an additional risk-control measure is applied to maintain fairness and stability:
Profits from trades that are opened or closed within 5 minutes before or after a high-impact news release may be removed.
This adjustment does not cause an account breach — only the specific profits may be affected.
Trades that are opened before the event and held through the news release are not impacted.
This policy applies only to trades taken on or after September 4th, 2025. Trades placed before this date are not subject to review.
Why This Rule Exists
High-impact news events can lead to extreme volatility, slippage, and irregular execution. Adjusting profits generated solely from this activity helps ensure consistency across all traders while still allowing flexibility around news periods.
Best Practices for News Trading
Manage risk carefully: Use appropriate stop losses and leverage.
Hold positions confidently: Trades carried through news events are not penalized.
Stay informed: Monitor the economic calendar for events that fall within the 5-minute window.
What Is Considered a Major News Event?
At NSF, major news events are high-impact economic releases or announcements that typically generate significant market volatility. These are commonly labeled as “High Importance” on popular economic calendars such as:
Forex Factory
Investing.com
DailyFX
Common examples include:
U.S. Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP)
FOMC interest rate decisions
Consumer Price Index (CPI) reports
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) releases
Central bank announcements (Fed, ECB, BoE, etc.)
Summary
News trading is fully allowed during evaluations with no restrictions.
On funded accounts, profits from trades opened or closed within 5 minutes of high-impact news may be removed (effective September 4th, 2025).
